Athens, Alabama - Athens Bible School marked a major milestone this week as President/Coach Billy Bradford completed a 200-lap Walk-A-Thon in support of the school’s new fundraising effort, Stepping Up for ABS. The event, held on Tuesday, December 9th, capped off weeks of preparation and community engagement that began when the fundraiser was first announced in November.
School leaders spent the past month inviting families, students, faculty, and local supporters to join the effort by pledging contributions based on the number of laps completed. The campaign received an additional boost when a matching donor committed to doubling all contributions up to $100,000, making each pledge twice as impactful.
Coach Bradford set an ambitious goal of 200 laps, the equivalent of 25 miles. His preparation included walking, conditioning, and working with students to build momentum for the school-wide effort. On the day of the event, students lined the track, teachers fulfilled playful “bounties” tied to fundraising goals, and supporters gathered to cheer him on as he steadily worked toward the finish.
Principal Duke joined Bradford for a significant portion of the walk, offering encouragement and symbolizing the united leadership behind the initiative. Staff members also participated in various ways throughout the day, contributing to an atmosphere of school spirit and community pride.
By early afternoon, Coach Bradford crossed the 200-lap threshold to enthusiastic applause. The accomplishment marked not only a personal milestone but a significant moment for Athens Bible School as it continues to strengthen programs, enhance student experiences, and build momentum for the future.
Donations continue to be accepted, and school officials hope the success of this inaugural event will set the stage for more community-driven support in the years ahead.

All donations to ABS are matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000 until the end of the year.
